Description
The Raychem Low Voltage (LV) Surge Arrester up to 440 V is a metal-oxide varistor (MOV)-based protective device designed to safeguard low-voltage electrical systems against transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes and switching operations. It provides a low-impedance path to earth during surge events, limiting the surge voltage and protecting connected equipment from damage. It is suitable for use in low-voltage overhead distribution lines, distribution transformers, consumer service entrances, and industrial electrical installations.
Key Features :
- Rated for low-voltage systems up to 440 V AC continuous operating voltage.
- Protects against lightning-induced and switching overvoltages.
- Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) technology with fast response time (typically less than 100 ns).
- Suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
- UV-resistant and flame-retardant polymer housing.
- Integrated disconnector with pre-attached line lead for easy installation.
- Visible failure indicator for quick maintenance checks.
- Tool-free installation.
- Tested in accordance with IEC 61643-1, EN 61643-11, and high-current impulse testing as per IEC 60099-4.
Typical Technical Specifications (LVA-440B) :
- Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (Uc): 440 V AC
- Nominal Discharge Current (In): 10 kA (8/20 µs)
- Maximum Discharge Current (Imax): 100 kA
- High Current Impulse (4/10 µs): 100 kA
- Operating Frequency: 48–62 Hz
- Operating Temperature: –40°C to +70°C
- Protection Class: Type II / Class II
Applications :
- Low-voltage overhead distribution networks
- Distribution transformers
- Consumer service connections
- Industrial and commercial electrical panels
- Utility power distribution systems
- Protection of sensitive electrical and electronic equipment against transient overvoltages
Standards: IEC 61643-1 / EN 61643-11 (Type II/Class II), with additional testing per IEC 60099-4.
